About KATRD

Since its early years of foundation, the Academy has been at the forefront of globalizing domestic societies by promoting international academic interchanges with overseas societies and enhancing the knowledge needed to fight tuberculosis. At the core of the national anti-tuberculosis movement, the Academy currently has associations with International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (changed its name from IUAT to IUATLD in 1986), American Thoracic Society (ATS), European Respiratory Society (ERS), The Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR), and American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP).

The Korean chapter of the ACCP was formed and approved by the US Headquarter in 1959. Since then the 4th Asian Pacific Congress on Diseases of the Chest (APCDC) was co-hosted by the Korean Chapter of the International Society for Diseases of the Chest The Korean Society of Circulation, and The Korean Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery on October 15-19, 1975. Over 300 medical professionals from 14 countries took part in this congress. On October 4-7, 1992, the Academy successfully organized and hosted the 12th APCDC in which more than 900 colleagues from 25 nations participated.
