Incidences of cancer are steadily rising due to population aging. Of the different types of cancer troubling mankind, lung cancer is a malignant tumor with poor prognosis and ranked as number one cause of death among all cancers globally. Due to worldwide research on lung cancer carried out in the recent years, significant changes have come about in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of lung cancer.
Against this backdrop, the Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease hosted the 1st Lung Cancer Symposium on April 7, 2006 at Daeduk Convention Town in Daejon to stay abreast of the current trend and to enable active, in-depth discussions on recent findings and issues in the field. The 2nd Lung Cancer Symposium was also hosted successfully on April 13, 2007 at Muju Resort. As time goes on, more and more specialists are showing interest in our activities and coming forth to share their insights and practical information essential for diagnosis and treatment of patients. Thanks to such support, our symposium is establishing itself as the undisputed flagship lung cancer symposium of Korea. We hope to become a cornerstone in the field of lung cancer research and treatment by continuing to serve as a trusted source of lung cancer related information with our ongoing symposium.
